Many parents today drop their children at a daycare centre to go to work for safekeeping until they return from work in the evening. At a daycare centre, children receive adult supervision plus basic education such as social interaction, games, behaviour lessons and art & creative activities. How much a daycare worker earns depends on their job cadre. Classification of daycare workers

State requirements to become a preschool teacher vary but the basic qualification is a post-high school certificate in early childhood education. They work under the close supervision of preschool teachers to offer extra attention to learners. Their main duties are to interact with learners one on one and distribute learning materials such as play toys, and other play equipment to ensure all the children share resources equitably. They also teach learners how to behave well with their peers, explain different concepts to learners and keep progress records for each learner and update them daily, plus any other duties assigned by their seniors. Teacher assistants may opt for on-the-job training to qualify as a teacher in a learning centre.
Educational administrators: They may also be referred to as daycare centre directors and their main duties are to manage and supervise workers, prepare budgets, and prepare daycare programs and facilities. They are the ones to establish centre policies and implement them accordingly. They establish communication policies and provide communication channels between staff and parents and other educational stakeholders. These administrators spend a lot of time meeting parents and other stakeholders to discuss fee payment and children’s progress. They are responsible for the acquisition of daycare assets and equipment and they also hire and fire staff. Their qualifications range from a high school diploma to a bachelor’s degree in early childhood development. Some states may require this cadre of people to have internationally recognized professional certifications in the educational area of study. Administrators’ pay ranges between $33k to $37k a year but it depends on other factors such as locality and individual experience.

Some employers insist on employing childcare teachers with extra qualifications and pieces of training such as CPR and First Aid certifications. These certifications enable trainers to efficiently handle children and offer them the necessary assistance when accidents or other calamities happen such as cuts, spinal injuries, burns, head injuries, and more. CPR training enables trainers to take the right steps and actions in responding to uncertainties such as choking and seizures.
